Don't Mess With Mold!

I get calls from time to time with people asking me to deal with carpet which have been soaked by water due to groundwater or a water heater, toilet, etc. I ALWAYS refer them to a mold remediation specialist. Once the carpet has been dried out, I am the person to call to have the padding replaced and the carpet reinstalled. It is not wise to attempt the cleanup yourself! If you do, make sure that you obtain an Air Mover from a local rental store. They blow air on the affected floor and on the underside of the carpet to facilitate the drying. One also would need a dehumidifier to pull the excess moisture out of the air. You don't want to give mold an environment for which it can grow, so time is of the essence! Wet padding should always be removed! Using regular fans is not very helpful. They just circulate the air in the room, but don't dry the floor and the affected carpet. The carpet should be raised off of the damp floor. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish! Leave these types of situation for a professional to take care of for you!!
